Dan is a native Californian. He grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and attended college in Southern California at Chapman University where he met his wife Olga. He received a dual Master’s Degree in Political Science and Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship at Syracuse University. He also holds a certificate in Conflict Resolution and has served as a mediator in both California and New York.
Dan started work as the Poway City Manager on June 2, 2014 and concluded his service with the city on September 1, 2016. He came to Poway with more than 20 years of local government experience, most recently serving as Goleta’s City Manager for almost 9 years. Prior to his service in Goleta, he was the City Manager of Ojai in Ventura County, where he served more than 12 years, working his way up from Assistant to the City Manager. Dan’s municipal background includes extensive experience in redevelopment, grant management, budgeting, risk management, transportation, and community relations. Dan has a passion for leading organizations and making them stronger and better. He has also served on numerous non-profit and civic organization boards and is currently serving on Cal-ICMA’s Ethics Committee and Talent Initiative as well as a board member on the League of Women in Government.
Dan and Olga have two adult sons, Joshua and Aaron, and have come to enjoy community life that offers a more rural setting. His interests include sports, cooking, travel and politics.
